Tefal is a world-renowned French manufacturer of cookware and small appliances, most famous for pioneering the non-stick frying pan. Established in 1956 in Sarcelles, France, by Marc Grégoire, the brand was founded on the revolutionary application of PTFE (Teflon) to aluminum pans. The name itself is a portmanteau of the words 'Teflon' and 'Aluminum'.
In 1968, Tefal was acquired by Groupe SEB, a giant in the small domestic appliance industry. Today, while maintaining a significant manufacturing presence in France (particularly in Rumilly and Tournus), the brand operates a global production network to serve international markets. As part of Groupe SEB, Tefal remains a leader in kitchen innovation, manufacturing everything from air fryers and steamers to high-quality pressure cookers and irons.
