Tropicana was founded in 1947 by Anthony T. Rossi in Bradenton, Florida, USA. Initially starting with fresh gift fruit boxes, Rossi developed a process for flash pasteurization that allowed chilled orange juice to be shipped long distances, revolutionizing the industry. The brand became a household name globally for its 'Not From Concentrate' juices.
Historically, Tropicana was a major subsidiary of PepsiCo for many years. However, in early 2022, PepsiCo sold a majority stake (approx. 61%) of its North American and European juice business to PAI Partners, a French private equity firm. The two companies formed a joint venture known as Tropicana Brands Group. While PepsiCo retains a minority share and continues to act as the primary distributor in many regions, the ultimate strategic ownership lies with PAI Partners. Manufacturing occurs in multiple countries, often localized to the regions of sale to ensure freshness, including significant facilities in the United States and Europe.
