Chevrolet, colloquially known as Chevy, is an American institution in the automotive industry. Founded in 1911 in Detroit, Michigan, by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant, the brand quickly became the cornerstone of the General Motors portfolio. It was designed to compete directly against the Ford Model T, positioning itself as a provider of 'a car for every purse and purpose.'
