Popchips is a popular snack brand known for its heat-press manufacturing process, which avoids deep frying while maintaining a crispy texture. The brand was originally founded in the United States in 2007 by Keith Belling and Patrick Turpin, positioning itself as a healthier alternative to traditional potato chips.
In the United Kingdom and European markets, the brand underwent significant ownership changes. While initially a US-based entity, the European business was acquired by KP Snacks, a subsidiary of the German conglomerate Intersnack Group. As a result, Popchips sold in the UK are manufactured locally at KP Snacks facilities, primarily at their site in Tanfield. The brand remains a major player in the 'better-for-you' savory snack category globally, with its ownership split geographically between different corporate entities for the North American and international markets.
