Opinel is a legendary French brand of folding pocket knives, famous for its simple, durable design and wooden handle. The knife shown in the image is the classic No. 08 model featuring a carbon steel blade, identified by the distinctive 'Opinel Carbone' engraving on the blade and the rotating Virobloc safety ring. For over 130 years, these knives have been manufactured in the heart of the French Alps.
The brand has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century when Joseph Opinel invented the knife to serve the local farmers and shepherds in the Savoie region. Its design was so iconic that it was recognized by the Victoria and Albert Museum as one of the best designed objects in the world. Today, the brand remains a symbol of French craftsmanship and heritage.
Ownership of the brand has remarkably remained within the same family since its inception. Opinel SAS continues to be a family-owned company, operating its primary manufacturing facility in Chambéry, France, where it employs hundreds of skilled workers to produce millions of knives annually for global distribution.
