The Automobile Association, commonly known as the AA, is a historic British motoring organization founded in 1905. Originally created by a group of motoring enthusiasts to help drivers avoid police speed traps, it evolved into the UK's largest breakdown cover provider. Over the decades, the AA expanded its portfolio to include vehicle insurance, driving lessons, maps, and financial services, becoming a staple of British automotive culture.

In terms of ownership, the AA has undergone significant transitions. After being a mutual organization for nearly a century, it demutualized in 1999 and was acquired by Centrica. It later merged with Saga under the ownership of private equity firms Charterhouse, CVC, and Permira (forming Acromas Holdings). As of the mid-2020s, the AA is owned by a consortium consisting of TowerBrook Capital Partners and Warburg Pincus, following a take-private acquisition completed in early 2021. Today, it operates as a private limited company, maintaining its headquarters in Basingstoke while serving millions of members across the UK.
