Osram is one of the most iconic names in the history of German engineering and lighting technology. Founded in 1919 through the merger of the lighting businesses of Auergesellschaft, AEG, and Siemens & Halske, the brand's name is derived from 'Osmium' and 'Wolfram', the two materials most commonly used for lamp filaments at the time. This specific product is a Halolux T halogen bulb, designed for compact luminaires.

The ownership of Osram has undergone significant transformation in recent years. Long a subsidiary of Siemens, it was spun off in 2013. In 2020, the Austrian sensor specialist ams AG launched a successful takeover bid, leading to the formation of ams OSRAM. Following a major restructuring, the traditional general lighting business (light bulbs for home use) was sold to the Chinese company MLS Co., Ltd. (operating as LEDVANCE), while the ams OSRAM group redirected its focus toward semiconductor-based lighting, automotive sensors, and industrial applications. Production for such bulbs now takes place across several global locations, including facilities in Europe and Asia.
