Pier 1 Imports was founded in 1962 in San Mateo, California, as a retail company specializing in imported home decor and furniture. The brand quickly became synonymous with eclectic and globally inspired designs, sourcing products from artisans and manufacturers around the world. Throughout its history, Pier 1 operated thousands of physical retail stores across North America.

In 2020, following financial challenges and a bankruptcy filing, the company pivoted to an e-commerce first strategy. The intellectual property and brand assets were acquired by Retail eCommerce Ventures (REV). Today, the brand continues to operate as an online retailer, offering a wide array of home goods including indoor and outdoor furniture, lighting, and seasonal decor. While the brand is American by origin, its products are manufactured in various countries including India, China, Vietnam, and Indonesia to maintain its heritage of international craftsmanship.
