Pantene is a prominent hair care brand with historical roots in Switzerland, where it was founded in 1945 by Hoffmann-La Roche. The brand's name is derived from panthenol, a key ingredient discovered during Swiss research. Today, it is one of the most recognized global hair care lines, manufactured in multiple locations worldwide including the United States, France, and Thailand to serve different regional markets.
The brand passed into American ownership in 1985 when Procter & Gamble (P&G) acquired Richardson-Vicks, which owned Pantene at the time. Under P&G's stewardship, Pantene was repositioned as a mass-market leader. It remains a cornerstone of the P&G portfolio, benefiting from extensive R&D and global distribution networks.
