Blinkist was founded in 2012 in Berlin, Germany, as a platform designed to provide key insights from non-fiction books in a condensed format, known as 'blinks'. The service was developed to help busy individuals absorb knowledge quickly through both text and audio summaries. Since its inception, the company has operated primarily out of its headquarters in Berlin, where its editorial and development teams are located.

In 2023, the brand underwent a significant ownership change when it was acquired by Go1, an Australian-based corporate education and content provider. This acquisition was aimed at integrating Blinkist’s consumer-focused library into Go1’s professional learning ecosystem. Despite the change in parent company, Blinkist continues to maintain its brand identity and German operations while benefiting from the global reach of its Australian owner.
