GEM (Global Electric Motorcars) is a pioneering brand in the low-speed electric vehicle (LSV) industry. Originally founded in 1992 by a group of former General Motors engineers in Fargo, North Dakota, the company set out to create neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs) that bridge the gap between golf carts and full-sized automobiles.

The brand has undergone several ownership changes over the decades, most notably being acquired by Chrysler in 1998 and later by Polaris Inc. in 2011. Under Polaris, GEM expanded its lineup to include versatile utility and passenger vehicles used in campuses, resorts, and urban environments.

In late 2021, the brand was acquired by Waev Inc., an electric mobility company founded by former Polaris leaders. Today, GEM vehicles are primarily manufactured in Anaheim, California, focusing on sustainable, street-legal electric transportation solutions for both commercial and private markets.
