Rademaker Hopjes are iconic Dutch coffee-flavored sweets with a history dating back to the late 18th century. Named after Baron Hendrik Hop, who requested a candy version of coffee, the 'Haagsche Hopje' became a staple of Dutch culture. The brand Rademaker was founded in 1796 and became synonymous with this specific treat.
Today, while the brand maintains its strong Dutch heritage and identity, the manufacturing and ownership landscape has shifted. Rademaker was acquired by the Italian confectionery giant Sperlari (part of the Katjes International group). Although the recipe remains rooted in the traditional Dutch method, production is largely managed through Sperlari's facilities, primarily in Italy, to serve the international market.
