K-Swiss was founded in 1966 in Los Angeles, California, by two Swiss brothers, Art and Ernie Brunner. The brand made a significant impact on the sports world by introducing the first all-leather tennis shoe, the Classic, which became an iconic design in both athletic and casual fashion. The brothers' Swiss heritage influenced the name and the precision-driven design philosophy of the brand, blending European craftsmanship with American athletic culture.
While K-Swiss originated as an American company with a strong focus on high-performance tennis equipment, its ownership has shifted internationally over the decades. In 2013, it was acquired by the Korean firm E-Land World. Later, in 2019, the brand was sold to Xtep International Holdings Limited. Today, production is carried out in multiple countries, primarily within Asia, to supply its global market while maintaining its design headquarters in California.
As of 2024 and looking toward 2026, K-Swiss is a subsidiary of Xtep International Holdings Limited, a major professional sports brand group based in China. This transition has allowed K-Swiss to expand its footprint in the Asian market while continuing to leverage its heritage as a classic American heritage brand in the West.
