Dakine is an iconic outdoor lifestyle brand founded in Hawaii in 1979 by Rob Kaplan. Initially focusing on high-quality surf leashes, the brand expanded into backpacks, luggage, and technical accessories for action sports like windsurfing, snowboarding, and mountain biking. The name 'Dakine' comes from the Hawaiian Pidgin phrase 'the kind.'
Over the decades, Dakine relocated its headquarters to Hood River, Oregon, to better support its snow and bike product development. Since 2018, the brand has been under the ownership of Marquee Brands, a leading global brand management firm based in New York. While most manufacturing takes place in various Asian countries to maintain global distribution, the brand retains its strong American heritage and focus on durability and outdoor performance.
