Jeanswest was founded in Perth, Western Australia, in 1972 by Alister Norwood. Over the following decades, it grew into one of Australia's most recognizable denim retailers. The brand gained fame for its extensive range of denim fits and casual lifestyle apparel, expanding its footprint across Australia and New Zealand.

In 1994, the Hong Kong-based company Glorious Sun Enterprises acquired Jeanswest. This acquisition facilitated a massive expansion into the Chinese market, where the brand established thousands of retail outlets. While the Australian operations faced financial restructuring and entered voluntary administration in early 2020, the brand was subsequently acquired by Harbour Guidance Pty Ltd, a company owned by George Deeb, ensuring its continued presence in the Australian market. Manufacturing is primarily outsourced to various textile hubs across Asia to maintain competitive pricing and scale.
