Garoto is one of Brazil's most iconic confectionery brands, founded in 1929 by German immigrant Heinrich Meyerfreund in Vila Velha, Espírito Santo. The company grew from a small factory into one of the largest chocolate manufacturers in the Southern Hemisphere, known for popular items like its yellow box of assorted chocolates.
In 2002, the Swiss multinational Nestlé announced the acquisition of Garoto. Although the merger faced significant antitrust scrutiny from Brazilian regulators for over two decades, the acquisition was formally and fully cleared in late 2023. Today, Garoto operates as a key brand within the Nestlé portfolio, maintaining its traditional identity and production hub in Brazil while benefiting from Nestlé's global distribution network.
