Pringles was famously created in the United States by Procter & Gamble (P&G) in 1968, originally marketed as 'Pringles Newfangled Potato Chips.' The brand was developed to address consumer complaints about broken and greasy chips, leading to the creation of the iconic hyperbolic paraboloid shape and the protective cylindrical canister.

In 2012, P&G sold the brand to Kellogg's (now Kelanova). Pringles products are produced globally in significant facilities located in the United States, Belgium (Mechelen), Malaysia, Poland, and China to serve different international markets. As of 2024 and beyond, the brand is owned by Kelanova following the spin-off of Kellogg Company’s cereal business.
