Philips Consumer Electronics and Lighting Products

Philips, originally known as Royal Philips, has undergone a significant transformation from a diversified industrial conglomerate to a focused health technology leader. Founded in 1891 in Eindhoven, Netherlands, the company initially gained fame for its carbon-filament lamps and quickly became one of the largest electronic companies in the world.

Over the last decade, Philips has divested many of its traditional consumer divisions. The consumer electronics business (TVs and Audio) is mostly operated under license by TPV Technology, while the domestic appliance division (coffee makers, air fryers) was sold to the investment firm Hillhouse Investment in 2021 and renamed Versuni. The iconic lighting division was spun off into a separate entity called Signify, though it still utilizes the Philips brand name under a long-term licensing agreement.

Today, the core Philips company is headquartered in Amsterdam and focuses primarily on medical imaging, patient monitoring, and personal health products like electric toothbrushes and shavers. Manufacturing is decentralized, with major hubs located in China, the Netherlands, Germany, and the United States, depending on the specific product line and target market.
