HMD Global Nokia Phones

HMD Global, branded as HMD, is the exclusive licensee for Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets. Founded in 2016, the company was established to revitalize the Nokia mobile brand after Microsoft's exit from the feature phone business. While HMD handles the design and marketing, much of its manufacturing has historically been outsourced to FIH Mobile, a subsidiary of Foxconn, with production facilities located in China, Vietnam, and India. In recent years, HMD has shifted some manufacturing to Europe to meet specific security and sustainability standards.

Owned primarily by private equity and institutional investors, HMD Global operates as an independent Finnish entity. It leverages Nokia Corporation's extensive patent portfolio and brand heritage while maintaining its own distinct corporate structure. The brand has transitioned from offering only Nokia devices to launching HMD-branded hardware, positioning itself as a developer of durable, repairable, and eco-friendly mobile technology.
