D. Carnegie & Co Porter is one of Sweden's oldest and most iconic beer brands. It was established in 1836 by the Scottish businessman David Carnegie Jr. in Gothenburg, Sweden, taking over a previous brewery founded by Abraham Lorent. The brand became famous for its porter, which is characterized by its dark color, rich roasted malt profile, and notes of chocolate and coffee. This specific variant is often sold as a 'folköl' in Sweden due to its 3.5% alcohol content.
While the original Carnegie brewery in Gothenburg is no longer operational, the brand's production and legacy have been preserved. For many years, it has been brewed under the stewardship of Carlsberg Sweden. The brand remains a staple in Swedish brewing history, representing a bridge between Scottish brewing traditions and Swedish industrial heritage.
Today, D. Carnegie & Co is part of the extensive international portfolio of the Carlsberg Group, a Danish multinational brewery collective founded in 1847. Despite its global ownership, the manufacturing of Carnegie Porter predominantly remains in Sweden at Carlsberg's local facilities to maintain its authentic regional profile.
