Quake II is a seminal first-person shooter video game developed by id Software and originally published by Activision in 1997. This specific 'Xtreme Collection' edition was part of a localized budget release series in Spain, published by Proein. Proein was a prominent Spanish video game distributor and publisher that specialized in bringing international hits to the Iberian market.
While the game itself was created in the United States by id Software, this physical edition was manufactured and distributed within Spain. Over the years, the ownership of the Quake brand has transitioned through major corporate acquisitions. id Software was acquired by ZeniMax Media in 2009, which was subsequently acquired by Microsoft in 2021. Therefore, the ultimate owner of the brand today is Microsoft Corporation, while the historical local distributor Proein was eventually absorbed into the SCi Entertainment Group (which later became part of Eidos/Square Enix Europe).
