Alcatel is a brand with a complex history involving French and Chinese corporate interests. Originally a French brand established under Alcatel-Lucent, the mobile phone division entered a joint venture with the Chinese electronics giant TCL Communication in 2004. Over time, TCL acquired full control over the mobile brand.
While the brand's heritage is European, manufacturing is centered in China, where TCL operates its primary production facilities. The 'OneTouch' series was a hallmark line for the brand, targeting the affordable mobile segment. As of current licensing agreements, TCL Communication remains the primary developer and manufacturer of Alcatel-branded mobile devices, while the brand name itself is licensed from Nokia, which acquired the original Alcatel-Lucent parent company.
