Wang Lao Ji, often marketed internationally as Walovi, is a world-renowned Chinese herbal tea (Liang cha) with a legacy dating back to 1828. Historically created by Wang Zebang in Guangzhou, it has become one of the most popular beverages in China, known for its cooling properties and traditional recipe consisting of seven medicinal herbs. The brand is deeply rooted in Chinese culinary culture, often consumed alongside spicy foods or during hot weather.
Today, the brand is owned and managed by the state-owned Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Group (GPHL). While there was a long-standing legal dispute over the trademark rights with the JDB Group (who formerly licensed the name), the Wang Lao Ji brand in its iconic red can remains firmly under GPHL's control. Production primarily takes place in various high-capacity facilities across China to meet both domestic demand and its expanding global export market. In 2024, the brand launched the 'Walovi' identity to better facilitate its international presence and standardisation across global markets.
