Carte Noire is an iconic French coffee brand founded in 1978 by René Monnier. It revolutionized the market by positioning coffee as a luxury item with its distinctive black and gold packaging. Originally part of the Grand-Mère company, it has moved through several corporate hands.

Today, the brand is owned by the Luigi Lavazza S.p.A. group, based in Italy. Most of its production, particularly for the ground coffee and capsules sold in Europe, remains anchored in France at its historical production site in Lavérune. This facility is central to maintaining the brand's 'Maître Torréfacteur' (Master Roaster) heritage and ensuring the high-quality standards associated with its French origins.
