Founded in 1960 in Plattling, Lower Bavaria, the brand began with the production of fuel oil tanks and expanded into steel panel radiators by 1967. Today, Kermi is recognized for high-quality radiators and shower enclosures, maintaining its primary manufacturing and development base in Plattling, Germany.

Over the decades, the company's ownership has evolved through several industrial shifts. After being part of the Preussag AG group, it became a core member of the Arbonia Group (formerly AFG Arbonia-Forster-Holding AG), a Swiss-headquartered building supplier. As of 2024, the Arbonia Climate division, which comprises brands like Kermi, Prolux, and Sabiana, was acquired by Midea Group, a global technology conglomerate based in China. This transition positions Kermi within a massive global network for HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) solutions, while it continues to represent German engineering standards.
