MG, short for Morris Garages, is an iconic British automotive marque founded in Oxford, England, in the 1920s. Originally known for its two-seat sports cars, the brand has evolved significantly over the decades. Following the collapse of the MG Rover Group in 2005, the brand was acquired by Nanjing Automobile Group, which later merged into SAIC Motor.
Today, MG is a subsidiary of SAIC Motor, a Chinese state-owned automotive giant. While the brand maintains a design and engineering studio in Marylebone, London, the vast majority of its manufacturing takes place in China, specifically at facilities in Lingang, Shanghai, and Zhengzhou. To support its global expansion, SAIC has also established MG production lines in Thailand, India, and Pakistan to serve regional markets.
