Historically, the brand was a key part of the Maine sardine industry. However, following the closure of the last Maine sardine cannery in 2010, production moved to various global locations. Today, the sourcing and canning occur in multiple countries around the world to ensure a consistent supply of sardines and Atlantic herring.

The brand has undergone several changes in ownership. It was originally part of the Stinson Seafood company before being acquired by Bumble Bee Seafoods. Since 2020, Beach Cliff has been owned by FCF Co., Ltd. (Fong Chun Formosa Fishery Company), a global leader in tuna and seafood trading headquartered in Taiwan. This acquisition integrated Beach Cliff into one of the world's largest seafood supply chains.
