Chums is a heritage brand founded in 1983 by Mike Taggett on the Colorado River, initially starting with the invention of the original cotton eyewear retainer. Over the decades, the brand expanded into a full range of outdoor lifestyle apparel and accessories designed for river culture and adventure seekers.
While the brand maintains a strong identity rooted in Hurricane, Utah, its manufacturing process utilizes multiple countries, including domestic production in the United States and specialized garment fabrication in Asia. This distribution allows them to balance high-quality craftsmanship with global demand for their technical and casual wear.
In 2002, the brand was acquired by a group of investors and has since operated under the leadership of the Skaggs family. Today, Chums continues to be a privately held entity headquartered in Utah, focusing on durability and utility for outdoor enthusiasts worldwide. Its ownership remains independent of the major multi-national fashion conglomerates.
