Schecter Guitar Research is a renowned American brand founded in 1976 by David Schecter in Van Nuys, California. Initially established as a high-end repair shop, the company eventually transitioned into manufacturing its own original guitar designs.

Today, Schecter is recognized globally for its wide range of instruments, catering to diverse genres from metal to jazz. While their prestigious Custom Shop models are handcrafted in the United States, their widely popular production series are manufactured in South Korea, Indonesia, and China to ensure high quality at various price points.

The brand has remained under the ownership of Hisatake Shibuya since the late 1980s. Shibuya is also the owner of the Musicians Institute and ESP Guitars, though the companies operate as entirely separate entities with distinct management and product lines.
