Balaton Red is a signature Hungarian cuvée produced by the Balatonboglári Borgazdasági Zrt., one of the largest and most historic wineries in the Lake Balaton region. This specific wine is typically a blend of classic varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir, harvested from the sunny southern shores of Lake Balaton (Plattensee). The winery itself, known locally by the abbreviation 'BB', was founded in 1956 and has evolved from a state-owned enterprise into a leading modern producer.

Since 1992, the brand and its producing entity have been part of the Henkell Freixenet group (formerly Henkell & Söhnlein), which is the wine and spirits division of the German conglomerate Geschwister Oetker Beteiligungen KG. The production process remains deeply rooted in the local terroir of Balatonboglár, utilizing a cellar system that dates back over 160 years. The wine is characterized by its fruity, berry-forward profile and is widely distributed across Europe, representing Hungary's long-standing viticultural heritage.
