Château de la Rivière Fronsac 1986

Château de la Rivière is a historic wine estate located in the Fronsac appellation of Bordeaux, France. The estate has a rich history dating back to 769 AD, when Charlemagne built a fortified camp on the site. The current picturesque château was constructed in 1577 and is renowned for its extensive underground limestone cellars, which are among the largest in the Bordeaux region.

The 1986 vintage shown in the image represents a classic Bordeaux red blend, typically dominated by Merlot with contributions from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec. In 1986, the estate was owned by Jacques Borie, who is credited with modernizing the vineyards and restoring the property's reputation for quality during the latter half of the 20th century.

In recent years, the ownership has transitioned several times. After a decade of Chinese ownership by the Bolian Group (starting in 2013), the estate was acquired in mid-2025 by Global Food Investments (GFI), a Luxembourg-based private equity fund managed by the Signet Group. This acquisition marks a new chapter for the estate as it seeks to further modernize production and expand its global commercial reach while preserving its cultural heritage.
