Mövenpick ice cream is a premium brand with a storied Swiss heritage. It was originally introduced in 1968 as part of the Swiss Mövenpick Group, founded by entrepreneur Ueli Prager, who opened his first restaurant in Zurich in 1948. While the brand carries the "Alpine Spirit" and is synonymous with Swiss quality, the ice cream business underwent a major structural change when Nestlé acquired the global rights to the brand in 2003.

In 2016, Nestlé entered into a joint venture with R&R Ice Cream to form Froneri, which now serves as the ultimate owner and manufacturer of Mövenpick ice cream globally. For the German market, the product is primarily manufactured in Germany at facilities like the one in Uelzen, originally part of the Schöller company which Nestlé acquired in 2002. Today, Froneri operates as one of the world's largest ice cream manufacturers, maintaining the brand's premium positioning while managing localized production to meet regional demand.
