XPENG, officially known as Guangzhou Xiaopeng Motors Technology Co., Ltd., is a leading Chinese smart electric vehicle (EV) company. Founded in 2014 by Henry Xia and He Tao—former senior executives from GAC Group—it was later joined by tech entrepreneur He Xiaopeng, who serves as the company's Chairman and CEO. The brand is distinguished by its 'software-first' approach, focusing heavily on in-house development of autonomous driving technologies and artificial intelligence integration.

Manufacturing is centered in China, with major wholly-owned production facilities in Zhaoqing and Guangzhou, and additional capacity in Wuhan. In a significant move toward global expansion, XPENG began partnering with Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria, to manufacture specific models like the G6 for the European market. This hybrid manufacturing strategy allows XPENG to maintain high production standards while navigating international trade dynamics.

Ownership of XPENG is a blend of founder-led control and strategic global investment. While He Xiaopeng remains the largest individual shareholder with significant voting power through a dual-class share structure, the company is publicly traded on both the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX). Key strategic investors include the Volkswagen Group, which acquired a 4.99% stake in 2023 to collaborate on EV platforms, as well as technology giants like Alibaba and the ride-hailing company DiDi.
