JCB, formally J.C. Bamford Excavators Limited, is an iconic British brand and a world leader in the manufacturing of heavy equipment. Founded in 1945 by Joseph Cyril Bamford in a small rented garage in Staffordshire, England, the company began with the production of a simple tipping trailer made from war-surplus materials. Today, it has grown into a global powerhouse, producing over 300 types of machines including its world-famous backhoe loaders, excavators, and tractors.

While the brand's heart and global headquarters remain in Rocester, Staffordshire, its manufacturing footprint is truly international. JCB operates 22 plants across four continents, with significant production facilities in the United Kingdom, India, the United States, Brazil, and China. India, in particular, serves as one of its largest manufacturing and export hubs.

Unlike many of its global competitors, JCB remains a private, family-owned enterprise. Since the founder's retirement in 1975, the company has been led by his son, Anthony Bamford (Lord Bamford). This private ownership structure has allowed the company to focus on long-term innovation and engineering excellence, such as their recent pioneering work in hydrogen-powered machinery, without the pressures of public stock market demands.
