Originally developed in the United Kingdom by Trentham Laboratories, the brand built its reputation on a patented cleaning system designed to remove nicotine, coffee, and tea stains without being overly abrasive to tooth enamel.

Over the decades, the brand has changed ownership several times as part of broader pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare consolidations. For several years, it was managed by Trimb Healthcare, a Swedish company. In 2019, Trimb Healthcare was acquired by Karo Healthcare (formerly Karo Pharma), a major European consumer health company headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Today, Karo Healthcare is owned by the global investment firm EQT. While the brand has deep British roots and manufacturing has historically been centered in the UK, the product is now distributed globally and produced at various contract manufacturing sites across Europe to meet international demand.
