Campofrío is a historic Spanish food brand founded in 1952 by José Luis Ballvé in Burgos, Spain. Initially starting as a regional slaughterhouse, it rapidly evolved into a national leader in the meat processing industry. Over the decades, the brand became a staple in Spanish households, known particularly for its Serrano ham, chorizo, and cold cuts.
Today, Campofrío is a core part of the Campofrío Food Group, which is a major player in the European food market. Since 2015, the group has been 100% owned by Sigma Alimentos, a global food subsidiary of the Mexican conglomerate Alfa. While its heritage and primary manufacturing hub remain in Spain—with significant facilities in Burgos and a new state-of-the-art plant in Utiel—the brand's production footprint extends across Europe, including facilities in France, Germany, and the Netherlands to serve international markets.
