Marin Bikes is an iconic American bicycle manufacturer deeply rooted in the history of mountain biking. Founded in 1986 by Bob Buckley in San Anselmo, California, the brand was named after Marin County, widely regarded as the birthplace of the mountain bike movement. Most of its model names, such as the Pine Mountain and Mount Vision, are derived from local landmarks and trails in the region.

Since its inception, Marin has grown from a local mountain bike specialist into a global brand offering a wide range of products including gravel, pavement, and electric bikes. While the company maintains its soul and design headquarters in Petaluma, California (formerly located in the Grateful Dead’s old recording studio), its manufacturing is primarily outsourced to major high-end bicycle factories in Taiwan and Indonesia to ensure global scalability and technical precision.

In 2012, after 26 years under the founder's leadership, Marin Bikes was acquired by Minestone Limited, a European-based private investment firm. This transition allowed for increased capital investment in product innovation and marketing while maintaining the brand's independence and Californian heritage. As of 2026, the company continues to operate as an independent entity under the leadership of CEO Matt VanEnkevort, focusing on the "Made for Fun" philosophy.
