Dr. Squatch is a prominent American men's personal care brand that gained widespread popularity for its natural, cold-process bar soaps. Founded in 2013 by Jack Haldrup in San Diego, California, the brand's identity is built around humorous, viral marketing and a 'manly' aesthetic, famously featuring a Sasquatch mascot. The brand initially grew through a direct-to-consumer subscription model before expanding into major brick-and-mortar retailers like Walmart and Target.
In June 2025, the brand reached a major milestone when it was acquired by the multinational consumer goods giant Unilever for approximately $1.5 billion from the private equity firm Summit Partners. This acquisition was aimed at scaling Dr. Squatch’s international presence, leveraging Unilever's global distribution networks while maintaining the brand's unique artisanal and natural positioning.
Manufacturing remains primarily centered in the United States, specifically in California, where the company utilizes traditional cold-process methods to retain natural glycerin and avoid the harsh detergents found in mass-market soaps. While the ingredients are globally sourced, the final production of the bar soaps continues to be a point of brand pride as 'Made in USA'.
