Movia is a world-renowned winery located in the Goriška Brda region of Slovenia, positioned right on the border with Italy. The estate's history dates back to 1700, and it has been managed by the Kristančič family since 1820. The winery gained significant international recognition under the leadership of the current winemaker, Aleš Kristančič, who is known for his eccentric personality and pioneering commitment to natural, organic, and biodynamic winemaking practices.
Most of the vineyards straddle the Slovenian-Italian border, with some parcels located in the Italian Collio region, though the production and aging primarily take place at the family estate in the village of Ceglo, Slovenia. Movia is famous for its 'Puro' sparkling wine, which is unique for being disgorged by the consumer, and its long-aged white and red blends like 'Veliko Belo' and 'Veliko Rdeče'. The brand remains a family-owned artisanal operation, maintaining its independence and resisting corporate acquisition or cooperative membership.
