Denon audio

Denon is a historic Japanese audio brand founded in 1910 by Frederick Whitney Horn. Originally established as Nippon Chikuonki Shoukai (Japan Recorders Corporation), the name 'Denon' was derived from a merger with Denki Onkyo in 1939. For much of its history, it was a subsidiary of Nippon Columbia.

In terms of manufacturing, Denon maintains a prestigious facility in Japan known as the Shirakawa Audio Works, where its high-end AV receivers and Hi-Fi components are meticulously handcrafted. However, many of its consumer-grade products, such as wireless speakers and entry-level electronics, are manufactured in China and Vietnam to maintain global accessibility.

As of 2026, Denon is owned by Harman International, which acquired the Sound United group (the brand's previous owner) in 2025. Harman is itself a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, headquartered in South Korea, making Samsung the ultimate parent company of the brand.
