Weber is a global leader in the outdoor cooking industry, famously known for inventing the iconic kettle grill. The brand's journey began in 1952 when George Stephen Sr., a part-owner of Weber Brothers Metal Works in Chicago, cut a metal buoy in half to create a dome-shaped grill with a lid to control flare-ups and wind. This innovation revolutionized backyard barbecuing and led to the formation of the Weber-Stephen Products company.

While the brand remains deeply rooted in its Illinois heritage, its manufacturing footprint has evolved. Most high-end and traditional charcoal models are still assembled in the United States at facilities in Palatine and Huntley, Illinois, using a mix of domestic and globally sourced components. However, certain entry-level series, such as the Spirit and some accessory lines, are manufactured in China to maintain global competitiveness.

In terms of ownership, Weber transitioned from a family-owned business when BDT Capital Partners acquired a majority stake in 2010. After a brief period as a public company starting in 2021, Weber was taken private again in 2023 by BDT & MSD Partners. In late 2024, a strategic combination was announced between Weber and Blackstone Products, further consolidating the brand's position in the premium outdoor appliance market under the stewardship of its private equity owners.
