Ultramar is a prominent energy brand primarily active in Eastern Canada, specializing in the refining and retail distribution of petroleum products. The brand's history began in 1961 when the British company Ultramar plc established Canadian operations, originally under the 'Golden Eagle' name. Over the decades, it expanded through significant acquisitions of networks from companies like Gulf, Texaco, and Sunoco, eventually consolidating under the Ultramar brand known today for its iconic eagle logo.

Ownership of the brand has changed hands several times through major corporate mergers. After being owned by Valero Energy for many years, the Canadian retail assets and the Ultramar brand were acquired by Parkland Corporation in 2017. As of 2026, Parkland Corporation remains the ultimate owner and operator of the Ultramar service station network. The fuel sold under the brand is primarily refined in Canada, notably at the Jean Gaulin Refinery in Lévis, Quebec, ensuring a local supply chain for its extensive network of gas stations and home heating services across Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic provinces.
