Cholula Hot Sauce is a world-renowned Mexican brand named after the 2,500-year-old city of Cholula in Puebla, the oldest still-inhabited city in Mexico. The brand's origin dates back over a century to a family recipe created by the Harrison family in Chapala, Jalisco. According to brand lore, the recipe was originally used as a 'sangrita' (a tequila chaser) before becoming a standalone table sauce.

For many years, the brand was licensed and distributed by the Jose Cuervo tequila family. In 2018, the private equity firm L Catterton acquired the brand, subsequently moving its headquarters to Connecticut, USA. In November 2020, the global flavor giant McCormick & Company purchased Cholula for $800 million. Despite these corporate changes, production remains deeply rooted in its homeland; every bottle is manufactured in Chapala, Mexico, preserving the traditional recipe and the iconic hand-carved beechwood cap that has become the brand's signature.
