Annas Original Ginger Thins

Annas Original Ginger Thins, or Pepparkakor, are an iconic Swedish staple with a history dating back to 1929. The brand was founded by sisters Anna and Emma Karlsson in their small home bakery in the Östermalm district of Stockholm. Their secret family recipe, featuring a blend of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves, became so popular that it eventually earned the brand the prestigious title of Purveyor to the Royal Court of Sweden.

Historically, the brand remained a family-run business for decades before being acquired by the Mattsson family in the 1960s. In 2008, the company was acquired by the Belgian group Lotus Bakeries. Today, while the brand maintains its deep Swedish heritage and its main production facility in Tyresö, Sweden, it has evolved into a global brand exported to more than 20 countries.

While the core manufacturing remains in Sweden, the brand previously had production facilities in Canada to serve the North American market. Now, under the ownership of Lotus Bakeries, Annas continues to be celebrated as 'Sweden's most loved pepparkaka,' maintaining the traditional baking methods and spice profiles that defined the original 1929 recipe.
