HMD OffGrid

HMD OffGrid is a compact, rugged satellite connectivity device designed for adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts. Launched by HMD Global in 2025, it acts as a standalone dongle or smartphone accessory that allows users to send two-way messages, share locations, and trigger SOS alerts via the Viasat satellite network in areas without cellular coverage.

The device is engineered for extreme environments, featuring an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and military-grade durability (MIL-STD-810H). It operates through the dedicated OffGrid app on both Android and iOS and includes emergency response services powered by Overwatch x Rescue.

Originally founded by former Nokia executives to revive the Nokia brand for mobile devices, HMD Global has recently pivoted to its own 'Human Mobile Devices' branding. While headquartered in Finland, the company utilizes a global supply chain with primary manufacturing handled by FIH Mobile, a subsidiary of the Taiwanese giant Foxconn, which operates major facilities in China.
