Onoto pens

Onoto is a prestigious British brand of luxury fountain pens with a heritage dating back to 1905. Originally launched by Thomas De La Rue & Company, Limited, Onoto gained international fame for inventing the first successful self-filling fountain pen, the plunger-filler, patented by George Sweetser. During its golden era, the brand was used by iconic figures such as Winston Churchill and Florence Nightingale. Production originally took place in London and later moved to Strathendry, Scotland, until De La Rue ceased manufacturing in 1958.

In 2005, the brand was resurrected by James Boddy through The Onoto Pen Company Limited. Today, Onoto pens are once again handcrafted in England, specifically at Colney Hall in Norwich. The modern company maintains the legacy of the original brand by producing high-end, limited-edition pens often featuring precious metals and materials of historical significance, such as wood or copper from classic ships. The ownership remains private under the directors of The Onoto Pen Company Ltd., which focus on preserving traditional British craftsmanship for a global market of collectors.
