Pelikan is one of the world's most prestigious manufacturers of fine writing instruments and office supplies, with a heritage dating back to its founding by chemist Carl Hornemann in Hanover, Germany, in 1838. The brand is iconic for its 'Pelikan' logo—one of the first registered trademarks in Germany—and for pioneering the differential-piston filling system in 1929, which revolutionized the fountain pen industry. Its most famous product line, the Souverän series, is renowned for its green-striped 'Stresemann' design and high-quality gold nibs.
While Pelikan's fine writing instruments are traditionally crafted at its specialized manufacturing facility in Peine-Vöhrum, Germany, the company also operates production sites in other countries including Mexico, Poland, and Malaysia for various office and school products. After navigating several ownership changes over the decades—including a long period under the Malaysian-based Pelikan International Corporation Berhad (PICB)—the brand entered a significant new chapter. In December 2023, the French family-owned Hamelin Group officially acquired Pelikan Group GmbH, integrating the legacy German brand into its global portfolio of stationery and office supplies.
