OMAS Fountain Pens

OMAS (Officina Meccanica Armando Simoni) is a legendary name in the world of high-end writing instruments, originally founded in Bologna, Italy, in 1925. For decades, the brand was synonymous with Italian artisanal excellence, famous for its twelve-faceted 'Arte Italiana' pens and the use of rare materials like celluloid. However, the brand's journey has been tumultuous, involveing multiple ownership changes and a period of liquidation.

In 2000, the Simoni family sold the brand to the French luxury conglomerate LVMH. It was later sold to the Chinese-based Xinyu Hengdeli Group in 2007 and then to O-Luxe in 2011. Following financial difficulties, the legendary Bologna factory was shuttered in 2016. In 2023, the brand was successfully revived under new leadership. This modern iteration of OMAS is led by Frank Zhang (founder of Nahvalur) and operates under the US/China-based Unibrands Group.

While the current brand management touts a return to Italian craftmanship and uses original designs and some remaining vintage celluloid stock, parts of the modern production and business operations are internationally distributed. Interestingly, as of 2025/2026, the heirs of the original founder (the Simoni-Malaguti family) have reclaimed rights to the OMAS name specifically within the European Union, leading to a unique situation where the brand exists in two separate legal and manufacturing entities: one global brand under Unibrands and an 'authentic' heritage revival by the family in Italy.
