Peter England is a prominent international menswear brand with a legacy dating back to 1889. Founded in Londonderry, Ireland, the brand originally built its reputation as a manufacturer for the British military, specifically providing uniforms and khaki trousers during the Boer War. Over time, it transitioned into a leading civilian fashion brand known for quality shirts and formal attire.
In 1997, the brand made its debut in the Indian market. Its trajectory changed significantly in 2000 when the Aditya Birla Group acquired the worldwide rights to the brand (excluding the UK and Ireland) from the British company Coats Viyella. Today, the brand's ownership is effectively split: while a UK entity caters to the British market, the vast majority of its global presence and commercial success is driven by the Indian conglomerate.
Most of the manufacturing for its massive Indian and international distribution network takes place in India, where it has grown into the country's largest menswear brand. The product range has expanded from traditional shirts and trousers to include denims, accessories, and suits, catering to young professionals and lifestyle-conscious consumers.
