Dark Matter is the flagship product of Hoyne Brewing Co., a craft brewery based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Founded in 2011 by Sean Hoyne, a veteran brewmaster with over 30 years of experience in the industry, the brewery is a family-owned and operated establishment. Dark Matter itself is a unique dark ale that defies traditional categorization; while often compared to a brown ale or a light stout, the brewery intentionally avoids assigning a specific style to it, focusing instead on its soft, creamy texture and notes of roasted malt and chocolate.

All Hoyne products are brewed and packaged on-site at their brewery in the Rock Bay district of Victoria. The brand remains independent and family-owned, resisting the trend of consolidation seen in the craft beer industry. Sean Hoyne and his wife, Chantal, continue to lead the company, emphasizing traditional European brewing techniques and long-term sustainability.
